Broomfield, Colorado – October 28, 2026 – PRESSADVANTAGE –

Financial advisors heading into 2027 should expect continued regulatory scrutiny, and the professionals who protect their careers most effectively tend to be those who prepare early. HLBS Law, a nationwide securities law firm that represents financial advisors, has outlined five shifts that advisors may want to monitor as the regulatory environment evolves in the year ahead.

The first shift involves ongoing attention to CRD and BrokerCheck records. Advisors should anticipate that the accuracy of their public disclosures will remain a central concern, as complaints and disclosures recorded on these databases can shape how clients, firms and regulators view a professional for years.

The second shift centers on how expungement matters are handled. The process for removing inaccurate or unfounded disclosures from industry records has continued to receive regulatory focus, and advisors should expect that requests will be reviewed with care and require thorough documentation.

The third shift relates to Form U5 filings and termination disputes. When an advisor separates from a firm, the language used on a Form U5 can affect future employment. Advisors who understand how these filings are made are often better positioned to respond when a disclosure does not reflect the full picture.

The fourth shift concerns FINRA Rule 8210 investigation requests. Regulatory inquiries that call for documents, testimony or written responses remain a routine part of the compliance landscape. Advisors who recognize the significance of these requests early can respond in an informed and timely manner.

The fifth shift addresses the arbitration process. Dispute resolution through FINRA arbitration continues to be a primary avenue for resolving conflicts between advisors, firms and customers, and advisors should expect procedural considerations to remain an important factor in how matters move forward.

Owen Harnett, founder and managing attorney of HLBS Law, said: “A customer complaint on BrokerCheck can follow an advisor for an entire career, even when the allegation has no merit. Expungement isn’t about hiding misconduct. It’s about making sure the public record is accurate.”

The outlook is directed at financial advisors and other financial professionals rather than investors or the general public. It is intended to help industry professionals understand the broader direction of regulatory attention and consider how early preparation can support their careers. None of the shifts described represent a certainty, and the outlook reflects general expectations rather than any specific rule change or announcement.
