Leap, the healthcare company making specialty medicine more affordable and easier to access, today announced a collaboration with WeInfuse, the platform powering more than 1,400 independent infusion providers nationwide. The collaboration expands Leap’s nationwide infusion network to thousands of additional independent infusion centers, cementing Leap as one of the largest employer specialty infusion networks available to self-funded employer health plans.
This expansion deepens Leap’s 50-state footprint for the growing list of employers and health plans choosing Leap as the specialty drug and infusion care coordination solution for their populations. Participating infusion providers on WeInfuse’s platform, including ambulatory infusion centers, infusion suites, and home and specialty pharmacies, can now join Leap’s Transparency Network and accept Leap-coordinated patient referrals. Inside the network, Leap sources each therapy through its specialty pharmacy partners and bills the health plan at true acquisition cost, while the site is paid a flat fee to administer it. Because the drug carries no buy-and-bill markup, this model gives more patients access to convenient, lower-cost care close to home.
With employers’ average health spend growing at its fastest pace in 20 years, specialty infusion remains one of the fastest-growing lines of medical spend, with provider markups sometimes exceeding 400%, according to a 2024 study. Moving patients to lower-cost sites isn’t always easy, though, because referrals still travel by phone, fax, and manual handoff, creating delays for patients and administrative work for providers.
The Leap and WeInfuse collaboration is designed to change that. Participating providers can accept Leap-coordinated referrals through the systems they already use. In the next phase, the two companies will co-design a programmatic referral integration directly into WeInfuse’s platform, setting the foundation for modern, system-to-system specialty infusion referrals at scale.
“Leap is quickly becoming the partner of choice for employers and health plans looking to adopt a modern model for specialty infusion care,” said Christine Hummel, SVP, Manufacturer & Specialty Network Relationships, Leap. “That growth depends on having the broadest, most trusted independent infusion network in the country. By bringing WeInfuse’s provider community into the Leap Transparency Network, we’re giving forward-thinking employers and health plans access to the largest Leap-vetted independent infusion footprint in the country.”
Amir Sharif, President and Co-Founder of Leap, added: “Specialty infusion referrals today still happen over fax, phone, and goodwill. Our collaboration with WeInfuse builds the referral layer into the platform infusion centers already use, so Leap-coordinated patients can flow to a nearby participating site without rebuilding anyone’s workflow. It’s modern infrastructure for specialty medicine, built where the care actually happens.”
The expanded network strengthens all three sides of specialty infusion delivery. Patients gain more options for care close to home, including at-home infusion when clinically appropriate. Employers and health plans gain access to a dramatically broader network of transparently priced, Leap-vetted sites that lower total specialty infusion cost. And WeInfuse’s independent providers gain a new source of employer-sponsored patient volume through the platform they already run their businesses on.
“WeInfuse was built to make it easier for independent infusion providers to operate and grow, so creating a more direct connection between these providers and employer-sponsored patients is a natural extension of the platform,” said Bryan Johnson, CEO and Co-Founder of WeInfuse. “Working with Leap gives our customers another way to reach patients who need their services, while keeping the workflows they already know.”
